The Indian Premier League player retentions and releases have been announced by all the eight franchises on Wednesday.
Here’s the complete list of all players released, retained and purses left for the eight teams ahead of IPL players’ auction, likely to be held on February.
The biggest released player ahed of IPL 2021 mini auction has arguably been Steve Smith as Rajasthan Royals have released the Australian batsman. Sanju Samson has been named as the new captain of Rajasthan Royals. Kolkata Knight Riders have also decided to part ways with flamboyant English opener Tom Banton after buying him in IPL 2019 auction pool. They have also let go Chris Green, Siddesh Lad, Nikhil Naik and M Siddharth.
Glenn Maxwell and Lasith Malinga let go by the Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians respectively as well. MI further opted to release Nathan Coulter-Nile, Mitchell McClenaghan, Sherfane Rutherford, James Pattinson, Digvijay Deshmukh and Prince Balwant Rai. Royal Challengers Bangalore on Wednesday released Aaron Finch and Chris Morris for the 2021 edition. the team has let go of Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Isuru Udana.
As expected, the Hyderabad franchise has kept its core intact and released five players. Sanjay Yadav, Sandeep, Prithvi Raj, Fabien Allen, and Billy Stanlake have been released. Warner in all probability would lead the side. Sunrisers Hyderabad now has Rs 10.75 crore in their wallet for IPL 2021 Auction.
MI have succeeded in retaining their core and as expected Rohit Sharma would lead the side. They would be a strong side this season as well and it is only because of the strong core they have. The big news from the Mumbai camp is the fact that veteran Lasith Malinga has been released. CSK has backed MS Dhoni for another season after his woeful show in the last IPL. He faced backlash on social media and there was speculation which he had quashed. Ravindra Jadeja has also been retained along with Shardul Thakur.
Delhi Capitals on Wednesday retained Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane, Ishant Sharma and Anrich Nortje for the 2021 edition, which is scheduled to be held between April and June.
The side, however, released Keemo Paul, Sandeep Lamichhane, Alex Carey, Mohit Sharma and Tushar Deshpande.
