After losing the first Test match India thrashed England by 317 runs on Day 4 of the second Test match, and have levelled the series 1-1 at the Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
India have made a terrific comeback with an all-round shoe on a pitch that saw England failing to cross 200 in either of their innings. After winning the toss, Rohit Sharma hit a century as India posted 329 runs. In reply, England were skittled for 134 with Ravichandran Ashwin taking his five-wicket haul. In the second innings Ashwin scored a memorable century, his fifth in the format, as he helped India set England a massive 482 runs win.India then wrapped up England”s second innings inside 55 overs as they were bowled out for 164. With this win India levelled the series at one all and are still alive in the hunt for a final spot at the ICC World Test Championship.
The pitch played a crucial role in the match and the spinners from both teams took advantage of the situation. Day 4 began with England three wickets down. The script was set and it was expected that India would win the game.
The hosts began Day 4 on a strong note, taking quick wickets with the visiting batting order crumbling against Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel. All-rounder Moeen Ali was the top performer for England, scoring a T20-like knock (43 off 18 balls). India’s bowling department cruised past England, with Axar Patel registering his maiden five-haul in his debut Test match.
